Synscenter Refsnæs hosts its annual summer school
RoboBraille’s co-developer, The Danish Centre for Visual Impairment, Children and Youth (Synscenter Refsnaes) in Region Zealand, held its 44th annual summer camp in late June as over 100 blind and partially sighted children arrived for a week of bonfires, festivities, and spending time with friends. RoboBraille’s summer intern joined the Refsnæs crew and other camp workers in helping kick off the summer holidays with the fun and celebrations of “Sommerskolen” in Kalundborg.
112 youth aged 16 and younger descended upon the institution on Sunday night, full of excitement at the opportunity to spend the week catching up with friends around a bonfire, swimming, hosting a festival and dance party, and exploring the town of Kalundborg. Group leaders and camp counselors organized and guided the children in each day’s activities, while the children joined in running festival booths, putting on shows, and keeping everyone smiling, sunburned and lacking sleep though they were!
Synscenter Refsnæs, Sensus’s key partner in RoboBraille, remained cheerfully loud and bustling until Saturday afternoon, when the children and counselors hugged their goodbyes and repacked their sleeping bags to return home, ready to continue their summer holidays after a successful week of camp.
